Why I coach speakers.
I'm not a natural speaker.
After years of hiring speakers for my own campus events and hearing their powerful stories, I felt a desire to share my own — my struggles with depression, an eating disorder, being arrested, to name a few … but also my accomplishment of winning BIG on The Price Is Right!
A speaking mentor entered my life when I finally felt ready and helped me shape my experiences into a real message designed to empower and motivate others.

At the time, I had a career in Student Affairs and only aspired to speak occasionally. But after presenting conference breakouts and speaking for free on numerous campuses, more people invited me to speak.
I had no idea how to get paid for speaking. My biggest mistake was trying to figure it out on my own.
As I share in my TEDx talk, my turning point came when a student shared my speech had saved her life — literally. In that moment, I realized speaking was a calling, and I couldn't do it alone.
So I hired a speaker coach to understand the business of speaking. With their guidance, structure, and accountability, I began receiving paid keynote opportunities within six months. One year later, I had replaced my university salary and was inspiring audiences across the country.
I haven't looked back since.
